A piece of ganMore gan than you want
September 23 Fall reportI've been a bit of a slacker with the lack of updates, so I'll throw in something quickly now, since it's turned into Fall, and that means a slightly different schedule.
Curling has started up again. Tonight was our first game. Our third and skip were gone, so I ended up skipping, Cheryl did third and Dean our substitute did lead. We had a line on another lead, but they never showed, so Cheryl and Dean both threw 3 rocks each. We won tonight too! My take out shots are awfully light - something I need to work on. The draws are much better.
Anyways, the curling crowd isn't glamorous. Not that I'm chasing glamour or anything like that with my sports, but there's no spandex or high tech wear in curling. It's a lot of individual choice and ideas on staying warm and comfortable. Since I shaved my head this year, I'm thinking a hat would be a good idea for next time.
August 01 Bah. Humbug. So, my bike was stolen tonight. The usual hatred, anger, bitterness towards the usual suspects. I give up. If you see an orange Brodie Force mountain bike being ridden by a bum, try to run them over for me. July 22 Early morning meetings7.26AM - There's a box of Tim Hortons in the kitchen. I got here at 7.26 for this???
7.51AM - Three more boxes of Tim Hortons, and a couple fruit plates. Coffee is being made.
7.52AM - Still waiting for coffee.
7.53AM - I walk back to my cube to wait for the coffee.
7.55AM - I'm going to see if the coffee is ready. July 05 Bad timingThe water in False Creek has never been particularly clean, so flipping your boat in the water there has never been a particularly desirable thing. When you have raw sewage leaking into the water, it's a particularly bad time to flip. Needless to say, I flipped for the first time today. It wasn't near the source of the leak, so I'm relatively grateful for that.
On a side note, I've found that the best way to swim your boat back to shore is to hold onto the boat with one hand, and do the back stroke with the other. It keeps your head out of the water, and it's much faster than just using your feet to kick. I'm also damn fast at flipping the boat back up if I may say so myself. June 17 Desperate timesI've run out of food at work. I had to eat the half eaten Clif Bar that has been sitting on my desk for an indeterminate period of time. I really don't remember eating the first half of it, and the expiry on it says November 11, 2008, so I'm assuming it's not too too old. I would say no older than 9 months old.
It's quite amazing that it's kept so long for something that's supposed to be organic. Maybe there are organic preservatives? Either way, no mold (that I could see), no negative physical effects so far.
I really need to stock up on food for my cube. This is a really sad situation. That I'm reduced to eating half eaten Clif bars of relatively unknown history. That I'm in my cube often enough to require a stock of food. Somebody rescue me! March 07 I just wanted to paddleI'm off to the US of A next week for some meetings. A day of travel each way and 2 days of meetings. I will miss one day of curling, 1 day of dragonboat, and 2 days of outrigger. I might be back early enough on Thursday to go paddling... we'll see.
January 08 Out out damn spot, out! I had my first swim lesson at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre today. We learn to kick our feet. Oh, and breathe also. It's actually a lot harder than it looks. I've been told I should try to get my chin higher into the air before trying to breathe... I'm swallowing a lot of water. I think I should get ear plugs, nose plugs, and goggles. Basically prevent any ingress of water. I also smell like chlorine. Everytime I sniff myself, I smell chlorine. I've already taken 2 showers. Maybe it's all the chlorine I've swallowed... the fumes are still getting into my nose or something. I definitely can't scrub anymore. The last shower and scrub left me feeling peeled.
